Dental Fillings to Restore Decayed Teeth

Tooth decay is one of the most common oral health conditions patients can face. The condition, which you know better known as cavities, results from the interaction between bacteria in the mouth and things like sugar and other types of carbs.

The most obvious symptoms of decay include toothache, bad breath, and sensitivity. To help patients who have decay and have experienced these symptoms, our doctors at Moreno Dental offer a restorative service known as fillings.

Fillings come in many different varieties. One of the most popular today is made from composite resin. These are often called tooth-colored fillings because they can be shaded to match the color of teeth. As a result, they don’t stand out the way other types do.

Other types of fillings are made metal. These include gold fillings and amalgam fillings. Amalgams are made from a wide variety of metals, including mercury.

Amalgam fillings have been used by dentist for at least 100 years, but their popularity is fading due to their poor esthetics. Others have raised concerns about them because they contain a small amount of mercury, but they have been ruled to be safe by the American Dental Association.

Dr. Moreno and Dr. Young can help you understand what your needs are and which type of filling is most right for you. Both amalgam and composite fillings can be completed in a single visit, bringing your smile back to good health.

If you have cavities that need to be treated, call Moreno Dental to reserve an appointment with our Bellingham team. We’re happy to provide restorative care to patients from Ferndale, Lynden, Everson, and beyond.
