Moreno & Young Dental Wants to Keep You and Your Family Smiling

Dr. Moreno completing dental examYour family’s dental health is our priority! We want your gums and teeth to be healthy, which is why we recommend that you see us at least once every six months. We strongly encourage preventive measures to avoid big problems later on down the road. For kids, prevention includes fluoride supplements, sealants, or possibly some interventional orthodontic recommendations. For adults, prevention means arming you with the knowledge you need to make the best decisions for your long term health. In either case, regular visits allow us to detect problems when they are small, or potentially avoid future problems altogether.

New Patient Exam

During your first visit, you will start to meet the members of our team. We try to couple your new patient exam with hygiene treatment and necessary x-rays. Then, either Dr. Moreno or Dr. Young will come in to meet you and review your case before looking at your mouth and customizing a long-term plan for success. Depending on how long it has been since your last hygiene treatment, you may need to divide the cleaning up into two or more visits.

After you have been a patient at Moreno & Young Dental for a couple of years, we will have a better idea of how to best serve you. We will know how your gums respond to hygiene treatments. We will know more about your cavity rate. We will know more about your parafunctional habits such as clenching or grinding. We may opt to take x-rays at a longer interval period. We will customize an oral health care plan suited to you.

Our professional, friendly dental team will make sure you have a wonderful experience at Moreno & Young Dental. We provide comprehensive preventive, family, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry services for Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Everson, and surrounding areas.

Dental Check-Ups and Cleanings

You should see the dentist at least twice a year to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy. During these appointments, Dr. Moreno or Dr. Young will examine your mouth for signs of cavities and gum disease. They’ll also perform a thorough cleaning to get rid of any plaque they find as well as tartar that can’t be removed through regular brushing and flossing. This way, you can have oral problems treated as early as possible – and in some cases before they’ve even had a chance to start!

Dental Sealants

We want to give your kids every chance for positive dental experiences leading to adulthood. One way to do this is to place sealants, or minimally invasive restorations, in newly erupted teeth. Sealants are a good way of decreasing the likelihood of future fillings while at the same time making the tooth more cleansable. The best part about sealants is that they can be done without any shots!

Nightguards for Bruxism

Patients who struggle with unconscious teeth grinding and clenching, bruxism, may think their only hope is to find a way to stop the habit, but unfortunately, most patients only experience bruxism while they’re asleep and unable to control their movements. For these patients, a simple, custom oral appliance may offer an effective solution. Patients will simply snap the small appliance into place onto the teeth. This places a physical barrier between the rows of teeth preventing wear or damage that can occur when bruxism is left untreated.

Oral Cancer Screening

Many patients believe only smokers or those who use other forms of tobacco are at risk of oral cancer. However, research indicates that 25% or more of patients who are diagnosed with this deadly disease never engage in any of the high-risk behaviors associated with it. That’s why we complete thorough oral cancer screenings during every six-month dental checkup. When caught in the earliest stages, oral cancer is often treatable, allowing patients to make a full recovery.

Fluoride Treatment

Bellingham is one of the few places in the country where Fluoride is not added to city water, which is why it is important for kids to receive a fluoride supplement in their daily routine. Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that, when incorporated into tooth structure, makes the teeth highly resistant to decay or erosion. Our professional, friendly dental team will make sure you have a wonderful experience at Moreno & Young Dental. We provide comprehensive preventive, family, restorative, and cosmetic dentistry services for Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden, Everson, and surrounding areas.

Brushing and flossing teeth every day is essential, and our team is happy to offer recommendations for improving your at-home hygiene routine. One of the most common things patients ask us about is which products are best, and the answer is almost always – it depends. We’re happy to help you understand how various toothpaste, oral rinses, and other hygiene products can positively affect your at-home care routine. A good rule of thumb is to check for the American Dental Association (ADA) seal before selecting any oral hygiene product.
